Black Women in Motion is a survivor-led organization that was founded in 2013 by Dr. Jean Augustine and Professor Nombuso Dlamini. Through a trauma-informed, culturally informed, and intersectional feminist framework, Black Women in Motion provides healing spaces for Black victims of domestic/gender-based violence. This grassroots organization offers multiple programs for Black communities, one of which includes the Black Youth Employment Assistance Program (BYEAP). BYEAP provides Black youth survivors of gender-based violence with pre-employment training and paid job placements as well as free individual counselling with Black therapists from the organization. Another program, The Black Peer Education Network (BPEN), provides Black women and nonbinary survivors of gender-based violence (ages 16-29) with collective learning spaces that include discussions of dismantling anti-Black violence, domestic violence, patriarchy, queerphobia, consent, and more. The BPEN program also provides participants with job training and employment.
